Biografía

Juan Fabbri, artista, antropólogo visual y curador. Nació en La Paz, Bolivia, es italoboliviano. Actualmente se desempeña como Docente Investigador del Instituto de Investigaciones Antropológicas y Arqueológicas de la Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (2016 – presente). Fue Curador del Pabellón de Bolivia en la 57ª Bienal de Venecia (2017, Italia), Bienalsur (2019, Argentina), parte del equipo organizador del seminario Desobediencias prácticas en Tate Exchange (2020, Reino Unido) junto a Joselyn Contreras y Rosario Montero, fue Jefe de Museo y Curador del Museo Nacional de Arte de Bolivia (2016-2019), trabajó como Gestor Cultural y Jefe Nacional de Gestión Cultural de la Fundación Cultural del Banco Central de Bolivia (2019 – 2021). Estudió Antropología en la Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (Bolivia) y la maestría en Antropología Visual y Documental Antropológico en la Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO, sede Ecuador). Colabora con la Revista Post(s) del Colegio de Comunicación y Artes Contemporáneas USFQ (Ecuador), Revista Chilena de Antropología Visual (Chile), y Revista Textos Antropológicos (Bolivia). Le interesan los cruces, vínculos y tensiones entre la antropología y el arte contemporáneo.

Bio in english

Juan Fabbri (curator, artist, visual anthropologist and lecturer) was born in La Paz, Bolivia, in 1986. He currently works as a Museum Chief National Museum of Art of Bolivia and as a Researcher at the Anthropology and Archaeology Research Institute of the University “Mayor de San Andres” (UMSA, by its acronym in Spanish). Fabbri completed his Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with the highest distinction for his thesis on the anthropology of contemporary art at UMSA. He completed his Master in Visual Anthropology at the Latin American Faculty of Social Science (FLACSO, by its acronym in Spanish) in Ecuador. Fabbri has presented his work at: SIART Biennial (Bolivia), III Latin American and Caribbean Congress of Social Sciences (Ecuador), IV Congress on Latin American Anthropology – (Mexico), “SACO3” Week of Contemporary Art (Chile), Cibercepción Digital Culture Biennial (Bolivia). He was awarded the ExpresArte Young Art Prize and was selected to represent Bolivia at the World Event for Young Artists (United Kingdom), he was curator of the Bolivian Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennial in 2017 and was a curator at the National Museum of Art of Bolivia and National Chief of Cultural Management of the Cultural Foundation of the Central Bank of Bolivia. As a researcher, Fabbri collaborates with the Chilean Journal of Visual Anthropology (Chile) and with Post(s), the journal of the School of Communication and Contemporary Art – USFQ, by its acronym in Spanish – (Ecuador). He has written about indigenous art issues in contemporary art; the intersections, links and tensions between anthropology and art; and about the use of indigenous images online.
